Find Your Inner Andy Murray

Tennis Courts in East London

It’s the time of the year to watch tennis geniuses or maybe even to find a tennis genius in yourself.

Wimbledon is back! The Championships, Wimbledon, commonly known simply as Wimbledon or The Championships, is the oldest tennis tournament globally and is widely regarded as the most prestigious. It has been held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London, since 1877.

Wimbledon is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, the others being the Australian Open, the French Open and the US Open. Wimbledon is the only major still played on grass, which is the traditional tennis playing surface.

Each year the tournament begins on the last Monday in June or the first Monday in July, two weeks after the Queen's Club Championships.

Wimbledon was cancelled last year, but it’s back this year, with the tournament scheduled to start today, 28 June, and finish on 11 July.

If watching Wimbledon encourages you to try your hand at tennis and find your inner Andy Murray, here are some of the places to play tennis near Newham.
